I have been bracing myself because the Bible study I have gone to this year {Mom to Mom at Church of the Apostles if anyone wants to go in the fall! It is so great!} has talked a lot about disciplining your children. Everyone in my small group has said some time after their 1st birthday it will begin - that sweet little baby who's worst offense is having a fussy day will figure out that they have free will. And so, Lee's time has come!
For those of you who have gone through and are still going through disciplining and loving your children, what is the best book you have studied, most helpful advice you've been given, or favorite scripture you have read about it? Help me please! I might be calling a couple of you soon for coffee!
How could that cute face ever get in trouble!?
ReplyDeleteWhat you're talking about is all too real for me & Luke lately too. I really like James Dobson's "Dare to Discipline". It's helped me out a lot. I have his book "Bringing up Boys" but haven't read it yet- heard it was good so I'll let you know when I finish.
So sad!! It can be one of the hardest parts of parenting. Scott and I really liked "Shepherding a child's heart" by Tedd Trip. It is full of scriptures to support his points. Call me anytime. Wyatt is almost two and we are right in the thick of it. From my experience 15 months to about 4 years old is the hardest. With lots of consistency you guys will be o.k..
ReplyDeleteEmilee~ church of the apostles is so close to us- in smyrna, right at 75/285. Would you email me some info about the Bible Study? Lord only knows what life will bring come July 14th but I'd love to get the info? sullivan.kerilyn@gmail.com thanks doll!
ReplyDeleteYou are so smart to fortify yourself now...it's only going to get more challenging! and more rewarding too, I might add!!!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, LOVE "Grace Based Parenting" by Tim Kimmel. We did it in our small group & I have gotten SO much from it. Thus far, my favorite parenting book I've read. I have also gotten lots of great treasures from "Dare to Discipline" ,as Kristen mentioned, and also plan to read "Bringing Up Boys" but have not yet. "Toddlerwise" is pretty good too, when taken with a grain of salt, though I didn't find it quite as beneficial as "Babywise".
Okay so there's my two cents worth :) We can talk more about this ANY time you want, I know you have gotten some great tools from your Bible study & I'd love for you to share those with me too!
Can't WAIT to see you on Wednesday, LOVE YOU!!!
I am so lucky to have you 8 months ahead of me so you can figure all of this out for me!! When Thomson turns 1 year, Aunt Emilie is coming to Athens for discipline boot camp!!! You are an awesome mama - Lee is so lucky!!!
ReplyDeleteAnything by author Kevin Leman, and this is my referral from Lindy Jones and Caroline M. I have just asked them the same questions!!! Don't make me count to 3, and Have a new kid by Friday. Going to borrow them or go buy them SOON. I need help. But consistency is the KEY. Persevere, you can do it! Each day is new, full of HIS grace and compassions. THank goodness!
